This one day conference will give delegates the opportunity to hear from the Care Quality Commission with a national policy update, including involving people and responding to their views: Voice into action.

You will have the opportunity to further your knowledge on some of the more challenging aspects of involving people, including form user involvement to co-production: the future of social care.

The day concludes with looking beyond involvement: employment, training and user led services, paying attention to the impact on access to work and education, increasing access to employment and training opportunities and supporting user led services.

Infection 2009 is the flagship conference and exhibition of the Federation of Infection Societies. It will take place from 11th – 13th November 2009 at the ICC in Birmingham. Its purpose is to promote and showcase what has been achieved to improve infection detection, control and management in the United Kingdom. Infection 2009 is unique in bringing together health professionals from all sectors of the infection management field, including Directors of Infection Prevention & Control, Infection Control Specialists, Antimicrobial Pharmacists, Microbiologists, ID Physicians, Surgeons, Intensivists, Chief Executives and Laboratory Scientists.

Over the three days of conference, they expect to welcome 600-700 delegates who will have the opportunity to attend plenary sessions, interactive workshops, meet the expert sessions, clinical lessons, half-day mini courses and much more.

The massive trade exhibition will host over 100 companies, with many stands already confirmed. Sponsors and exhibitors so far include: Pfizer, Wyeth, Novartis, Astellas, Frontier Medical, Daniels Healthcare, Hygienics, Clinimax, the National Patient Safety Agency and many more.

The use of mapping software and systems in health research

This workshop intends to highlight the uses of mapping software, web-based platforms and geographical information systems, in relation to health research. The event will cover topics concerned with infectious disease and also non-communicable disease. The day will include:
• Invited speakers to present on their topic
• Submission of abstracts for oral speaking slots (both infectious and non-infectious disease topics are welcome)
• An extended lunch session to include viewing of posters, electronic 'poster presentations' that can give demos of the researchers work, plus also computer terminals set up with Google Maps/Earth, Arc, MapInfo etc for delegates to have a go themselves and/or watch demonstrations of what can be done.
 

Confirmed speakers include:
• Russell Stothard from the Natural History Museum, covering schistosomiasis
• Mat Fisher, Imperial College London, covering the mapping of genotypes to identify populations and invasions in emerging fungal infections
• Marianne Sinka & Will Temperley, University of Oxford - Mapping the geographical distribution of the Anopheles vectors.
