Submission for NIHR Doctoral Research Fellowship
University of Liverpool
|
SURF has assisted with the development of a
submission for funding to investigate the
infectivity of norovirus in hospitalised adults.
SURF members reviewed the draft proposal and lay
summary and fed back issues from a patient and
public perspective. If the study is funded a SURF
member will act as a lay advisor on the project.

Computer simulation of
MRSA transmission in
hospitals
Led by researchers at the Health Protection Agency
|
This study used computer simulation to assess the effectiveness and value for money of different MRSA infection control strategies in hospitals.
SURF members attended a webinar (online presentation) from one of the researchers to hear about the methods and findings of the research. Following this they provided comments on the lay summary to make it more accessible to the public.
The study was led by researchers at the Health Protection Agency and was funded by the Policy Research Programme, Department of Health.

Cleanability of Bedrails and the spread of MRSA
Researchers
at University College London Hospitals

investigated if the surface coating of hospital
bedrails affected how easy it was to remove bacteria
during cleaning and the amount of bacteria
transferred to people’s hands.
SURF members reviewed
the lay summary and provided feedback to make it
more accessible and relevant to the public.
The study was
undertaken by University College London Hospitals
